Homemade Hemp Milk [Vegan]

What do you do when you're vegan and the only milk in the house is from an animal? Grab some hemp seeds and make your own!

Unlike almond and other nut milks where you have to soak the nuts overnight, hemp seeds take only a fraction of the time - I'm talking minutes.

Free from preservatives, thickeners and sugars, and not to mention a fraction of the cost of store bought vegan milks, I don't know why I haven't tried making hemp milk sooner.

Ingredients

30g  of Vitacost Shelled Hemp Seeds ($10 off coupon code below)
1 1/2 Cups of Filtered Water
3 tsp Natvia (or any natural sweetner you prefer)
Optional: Vanilla Extract or Ground Cinnamon

Directions

Add all three ingredients to your blender and allow to soak for 5 minutes

As the hemp seeds soften the water begins to look milkier and the seeds will blend better

Pulse your blender until the hemp seeds have broken down
Strain the milk through a fine sieve or cheesecloth if you have it
I like to add the hemp seeds back into the milk and blend once more to get more flavour from them, but this step is completely optional

Store the milk in a sealed container in the fridge for 2-3 days or use immediately

Makes 2 serves

Macros per serve

These macros are rough estimates simply because some of the hemp ends up as milk with some of the pulp remaining.
