[Product Review] Queen Jel-It-In

Finally there is a vegan-friendly gelatine alternative readily available to all the vegan dessert connoisseurs out there.

Queen Jel-It-In has just hit Woolworths supermarket shelves across Australia.

Watching cooking shows, cooking with gelatine powder or leaves always seemed so difficult and intimidating.

Without going into too much detail, the process of using Jel-It-In really is as simple as dissolving the powder in your chosen liquid, then bringing to a boil, and simmering for a minute before transferring to the glass/bowl/mould in which you want it to set.

I've used agar powder before, with mixed results, but I have to say that Jel-It-In an easier and more reliable product to use. The powder sets clear and is unflavoured, acting just as normal gelatine would.

In one box there are 8 sachets - with each sachet able to set up to 500ml of liquid. At less than $4 a box, this is great value for a vegan-friendly product.

If you're allergic to traditional gelatine, a vegetarian or a vegan, consider using Jel-It-In in your cooking.

Here are two recipes which you can expect to see coming up on a Treat Yourself Thursday in the near future:
